Terms of Service
These terms govern every use of Roast Lab. By creating a roast, uploading a photograph, opening a roast link, or sharing one, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Last updated: 18 September 2026
1. The service
Roast Lab is an entertainment website operated from the United Kingdom. It lets a user generate a time-limited joke page from a name, a headshot and a roast template, then share a URL that expires after 24 hours.
Roast Lab is not a social network, not a messaging service, not a professional tribute, not counselling, and not legal, medical or employment advice. Generated text is fictional satire and humour. It is not a statement of fact by us about any person.
We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
2. Eligibility and age
You must be 18 or over to use Roast Lab.
You must not create, upload, request or share a roast about anyone under 18, or anyone who appears to be under 18. If we believe a roast involves a minor, we may delete it immediately and refuse further use.
3. No accounts
Roast Lab does not offer user accounts. Access to a roast is by URL. Anyone who has the URL can view the page until it expires or is removed. Treat share links like public posts.
4. Acceptable use
You may only use Roast Lab for light-hearted jokes between consenting adults. You must not use the service to cause harm. Without limitation, you must not:
- Harass, bully, stalk, threaten, blackmail, humiliate, or intimidate anyone
- Create or share a roast about someone who has not clearly agreed to the joke
- Defame anyone, or present satire as a factual allegation of crime, misconduct, disease, or professional wrongdoing
- Upload or generate sexual content, intimate images, deepfakes, or “revenge” material
- Upload hateful, extremist, terrorist, or discriminatory content
- Target people in vulnerable circumstances, or use the service for workplace bullying, school bullying, or domestic abuse
- Impersonate us, another person, or a public authority
- Use share links for scams, phishing, fraud, malware, or any criminal purpose
- Probe, scrape, overload, reverse-engineer, or bypass security, rate limits, expiry, or access controls
- Upload illegal content of any kind
You are responsible for complying with all applicable laws, including defamation, data protection, harassment, intellectual property, and online safety laws in any place where you use or share the service.
5. Consent and photographs
Before you upload a photograph or create a roast, you confirm and warrant that:
- you are 18 or over
- every person shown is 18 or over
- you own the photograph or have a lawful right to use it
- every person shown has given you clear permission to upload their image and name for this joke and to share the resulting link
- the roast is a joke they have agreed to, not harassment or a surprise attack
- you will not share the link with people or platforms in a way that breaches that permission
If you cannot make those warranties, do not use the service. Ticking the consent box on the create form is part of your agreement to these terms.
6. Your content and licence
You remain solely responsible for the name, photograph, template choice, and any page that results. We do not pre-vet every upload.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, re-encode, crop, compress, cache, transmit and display that material for up to 24 hours (or until earlier deletion) solely to operate the roast page and related security or take-down functions. That licence ends when the material is deleted from our systems, except for copies you or others have already saved or shared elsewhere.
You are responsible for any claim arising from your content, including claims by the person shown, their employer, a platform, or a regulator.
7. Sharing and copies outside our control
When you share a roast URL (including via WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, Telegram, email or screenshots), you choose that disclosure. Recipients can see the name and photograph while the link works. Social platforms may generate their own previews and caches.
We cannot control, recall or delete copies once they leave our servers: screenshots, downloads, forwarded messages, platform caches, or search indexes. Deleting the roast on Roast Lab does not remove those copies. You accept that risk before you share.
8. Self-destruct and take-down
Each roast is designed to expire 24 hours after creation. After expiry the URL should stop showing the page. We do not promise backups, edits, extensions, or recovery.
If you need earlier removal, email hello@roastlab.co.uk with the full roast URL and a short explanation. We may ask for information reasonably needed to assess the request. We aim to act promptly on valid reports of illegal content, missing consent, or minors, but we do not guarantee a particular response time except where the law requires one.
People who appear in a roast may also request removal. See our Privacy Policy.
9. Our intellectual property
The Roast Lab name, branding, site design, code and roast templates are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, scrape, resell or reuse them except as needed to use the service in the ordinary way.
10. Moderation and suspension
We may remove content, disable links, block IP addresses, rate-limit, or refuse service at any time if we believe these terms, our policies, or the law may be breached, or if we need to protect the service, a person, or ourselves. We are not obliged to give prior notice where it would be impractical or unsafe.
11. Disclaimers
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by UK law:
- we do not warrant that jokes will stay private, that links will not be forwarded, or that social previews will look a particular way
- we do not warrant that automated expiry or purge jobs will run at an exact second
- we do not endorse any generated joke as true
- we are not responsible for other people’s reactions, workplace consequences, relationship consequences, or platform enforcement actions arising from your sharing
12. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that UK law does not allow to be excluded or limited.
Subject to that, we are not liable for:
- loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, opportunity, or indirect or consequential loss
- loss arising from your breach of these terms, missing consent, or unlawful sharing
- loss arising from third-party platforms, recipients, or copies outside our systems
- temporary unavailability, bugs, or failed uploads
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by UK law, we exclude liability for the losses listed above and limit any remaining liability as far as the law allows.
If you are a consumer in the UK, these terms do not affect rights you cannot contract out of under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other mandatory consumer law.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Roast Lab against claims, losses, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- your content, uploads, roast pages, or sharing
- your breach of these terms or of the law
- any claim by a person shown in a photograph or named in a roast
- any claim that you lacked permission, rights or consent
This indemnity survives expiry of a roast and termination of your use of the service.
14. Privacy
Personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, GDPR Policy and Cookie Policy.
15. Changes and termination
We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms for new roasts and ongoing access. We may stop offering Roast Lab at any time.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us for use of Roast Lab, and replace any earlier informal understandings about the service.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that mandatory UK consumer protections still apply where they must, and you may have rights to bring proceedings in your local UK court if you are a consumer.
